The beautiful Elora Gorge

Mystical and most likely haunted, the beautiful Elora Gorge is nested in Southern Ontario, Canada and guides the Grand River through a set of whimsical waterfalls.

My friend Simone and I answered the call of the river spirits and spent the night looking for that place where Polaris oversees the Gorge and dances with the Grand River.

We traveled through the depths of the Gorge in complete darkness, freezing temperatures, and under rocky and very complex terrain.

There was only a small window of opportunity to line up the shot. I tried to place the camera as close to the middle of the Gore as possible. It was extremely difficult because of the speed and depth of the Grand River rapids.

After many failed attempts, luck was on our side. There was a small ledge on the right side of the Grand River where the river slowed down a little bit thanks to a boulder that rested at the bottom of the Gorge.

With my tripod underwater and hoping that my camera wouldn’t be devoured by the River, I aimed at Polaris and spent what felt like an eternity setting the perfect shot. Time stood still and we basked on the warmth of the moon light.

My old faithful @lumix G95 camera helped me capture a magical moment that I will never forget. Breathtaking.

Cold, wet, and tired, we thanked the spirits of the Grand River for allowing us to share a mystical moment with them and slowly started to work our way back leaving behind a trace of our mortality in the dark depths of Elora’s Gorge.
